Growing up, we all have our own idols and role models who inspire us in different ways.
For me, that person has always been Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Prize laureate, and a well-known advocate for girls’ education.
From a young age, Malala’s story has impacted millions of people worldwide, including myself.
Malala Yousafzai was born on July 12th, 1997, in Mingora, Pakistan. She grew up in a small town in the Swat Valley, where the Taliban had a stronghold at that time.
Malala’s father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, ran a local school, and from an early age, Malala was passionate about education and its power to change the world.
However, the Taliban’s extremist ideology led to the closure of girls’ schools, depriving them of their right to an education.
Despite the danger and threats, Malala’s desire for education and her bravery to speak out against the Taliban’s ban on girls’ education never faded.
She started to blog anonymously for the BBC under the pen name ‘Gul Makai,’ sharing her experiences of living under the Taliban’s oppressive rule and advocating for girls’ right to education.
Her courageous and powerful words caught the attention of the world, and she soon became an international figure.
However, it was on October 9th, 2012, when everything changed for Malala.
While on her way home from school, she was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman.
This assassination attempt sparked outrage and condemnation worldwide, and Malala was immediately flown to the United Kingdom for medical treatment.
Despite the severity of her injuries, Malala miraculously survived and continued to fight for girls’ education.
The attack on Malala only strengthened her determination and resilience.
